AUDSS Nominations.

Dear AUDSS Members,

The year has indeed gone fast! It certainly has been an exciting one. In the coming weeks, the AUDSS AGM (10th October 2016) and committee handover will be happening.

Next Monday, September 26th, we will email the student body the “Call for Nominations”. We highly encourage people to nominate and be involved with running and representing our student body.

We are very pleased to announce our returning officer, Dr Stuart Renigers.
Based on clause 5.5 of the constitution Appendix IV: Election Regulations, members have a right to object (“Objection”) to the appointment of the RO.

Sincerest Regards,
Petronilla Grace and Austin Yoo

We must do everything we can to save the CDBS.

Hello everyone,

This is an extremely important post, about the child dental benefits schedule (CDBS). Recently it has been announced by the Federal Health minister that the Government does not intend to finance the CDBS in the upcoming budget.

This is extremely alarming as it means parents of eligible children will now be forced to pay for treatment out of pocket, or alternatively and more likely, visit the dentist less frequently or 'only when needed'.

The ADA has created a petition on change.org, linked below and we encourage everyone to take action by;

1. Emailing it to your friends/family/acquaintances
2. Sharing it through your social networks (#savetheCDBS)
3. Having conversations with interested patients
4. Ensuring it is consistently on your agenda in the lead-up to the budget in May.

Sign the petition now.

ADASA Mentorship Program: Reconnection Evening, 27th April 2016

ADASA

The Australian Dental Association is your professional Association. Students are provided with a number of services to assist them throughout their degrees and some of these include resources, insurance, networking opportunities, entry into the mentorship program and inclusion in the Employers Guide. The great news is that during your years as a student your membership is at no cost.

As mentioned, one of the many benefits offered to ADASA dental student members is participation in the ADASA Mentorship Scheme.

The Scheme is a longstanding program that has provided valuable support to students over many years. Following feedback, the program has been reworked to further improve the experiences for both the Mentor and Mentee. The current program is still over a five year period but it is now designed to support and encourage BDS students in years 3, 4, and 5 of their degree and in to the 1st and 2nd years as a practicing dentist.

We are aware that communication has broken down between some mentors and students and in response to this ADASA will be holding a ‘Reconnection’ evening on Wednesday 27th April 2016. We ask that you mark this date in your diary and we encourage you to attend. This evening will be open to all students and mentors in the mentorship programme and will allow you to re-establish networks and engage with practicing dentists. Further details of the evening will be communicated to you soon.

We care about the experience of our student members and look forward to building a successful program that both students and mentors will find valuable.

If you are not yet a member but would like to join the ADA as a dental student member please visit the link below:

If you are a dental student member with ADASA and wish to enrol in the Mentorship Scheme please contact Catherine by email cwaite@adasa.asn.au or call 08 8272 8111 before Thursday 31 March 2016.
